Power cable with aluminium conductors and XLPE insulation for 0.66/1 kV
APvVG is a power cable with stranded aluminium conductors, cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation and a PVC compound sheath, without protective covering. It combines the economy of aluminium with the thermal advantages of XLPE: ~25% more current through the same cross-section than AVVG. Designation breakdown: A — aluminium conductors, Pv — cross-linked polyethylene insulation, V — PVC sheath, G — unarmoured.
Sizes with actual technical data: outer diameter, weight and continuous current-carrying capacity in air at +25°C. For aluminium, typical cross-sections start from 16 mm². Full range per GOST 31996-2012: 2.5 — 1000 mm².

APvVG is a modern replacement for AVVG in distribution networks with a higher load. The stranded aluminium conductors are insulated with cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE), which withstands continuous heating up to +90°C (vs +70°C for PVC) and +250°C under short circuit. This gives +20–25% continuous current-carrying capacity through the same cross-section.
Advantages vs AVVG: higher current-carrying capacity, longer service life, better overload resistance. Advantages vs PvVG (Cu+XLPE): significantly cheaper and lighter. Used in 0.4 kV trunk distribution networks, supply to transformer substations and urban cable lines.
Conductors
Stranded aluminium, round or sector-shaped, 1–5 cores.
Insulation
Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) with colour-coded cores. Continuous heating up to +90°C, up to +250°C under short circuit.
Stranding
The insulated cores are laid up into a cable core.
Sheath
Polyvinyl chloride compound, black. No protective covering.
