CU-ETP / MM / MT

Round electrical copper wire, soft and hard

Round electrical copper wire of grades Cu-ETP and Cu-ETP1 manufactured by TCG. It is used to make the conductors of wires, cables, cords and other electrical products. It is made in two versions: MM (soft – annealed, with higher ductility) and MT (hard – as drawn, with higher strength). Designation breakdown: Cu-ETP – Electrolytic Tough Pitch copper (electrolytic copper), MM – soft copper, MT – hard copper.

Material Electrolytic copper
Purity 99.9% (ETP) / 99.95% (ETP1)
Diameter 0.15 – 7 mm
Heat treatment MM (soft) / MT (hard)

Cu-ETP copper wire description

Round electrical copper wire is a key semi-finished product for cable manufacturing. TCG produces it from its own KMO copper wire rod, made in an UPCAST melting furnace from M00k cathodes (99.99% purity). Quality is controlled at every stage – from copper melting to the finished wire.

Features:

  • High thermal and electrical conductivity: Cu-ETP is one of the best conductors of electricity
  • Good ductility: the MM version is indispensable as the basis for electrical devices and wires (it bends and twists easily without breaking)
  • High strength: the MT version resists fracture and is suitable for applications with mechanical loads
  • Corrosion resistance: unaffected by the environment under normal conditions

It is used to make the conductors of wires, cables and cords and for other electrical purposes – both by TCG itself for its own cables and as a product supplied to other cable plants.

Applications

Manufacture of conductors for wires, cables and cords
Winding wires for transformers and electric motors
Manufacture of electrical products
Mechanical engineering and shipbuilding
Power industry – contact connections

Construction / Process

1

Raw material

KMO copper wire rod from M00k cathodes (99.99% Cu).

2

Wire drawing

Gradual reduction of the diameter on a wire-drawing machine through drawing dies. Final diameter from 0.15 to 7 mm.

3

Heat treatment (for MM)

Annealing in an inert gas atmosphere at 450-500°C. Restores ductility after drawing. The result is MM soft copper.

4

Without annealing (MT)

The wire remains in the work-hardened condition after drawing. The result is MT hard copper with higher mechanical strength but lower ductility.
