SIP-3

Self-supporting single-core covered conductor for 6-20 kV overhead lines

SIP-3 is a self-supporting single-core covered conductor for medium-voltage overhead lines of 6, 10, 15 and 20 kV. The conductor is made of aluminium alloy with a protective covering of UV-stabilised cross-linked polyethylene. It is used in forested areas, where there is a high likelihood of contact with vegetation, and in polluted atmospheres. Designation breakdown: SIP – self-supporting insulated wire, 3 – covered, single-core.

SIP-3 wire description

SIP-3 is a self-supporting covered conductor for medium-voltage overhead power lines of 6, 10, 15 and 20 kV (sometimes up to 35 kV). Single-core design with an aluminium alloy conductor in a protective covering of UV-stabilised cross-linked polyethylene.

The main difference from the classic bare conductors A and AS is the protective covering, which withstands brief contact with tree branches without a short circuit. This radically reduces the number of emergency outages in forested areas and during hurricane-force winds. In polluted atmospheres (industrial dust, coastal salinity, chemical emissions – types II and III per GOST 15150), the covering protects the conductor from corrosion and reduces leakage losses through the insulators.

SIP-3 differs from SIPst-3 in the design of the conductor: SIP-3 has an ordinary Al alloy conductor, while in SIPst-3 the Al wires are reinforced with a steel wire for long spans.

Applications

Trunk overhead lines of 6, 10, 15 and 20 kV
Branch lines from medium-voltage overhead lines
Overhead lines in forested areas and areas with vegetation
Overhead lines in polluted atmospheres (types II and III per GOST 15150)
Replacement of bare conductors A and AS on existing overhead lines
