SIPN-1

Flame-retardant self-supporting wire with a bare neutral core

SIPn-1 is a version of SIP-1 with flame-retardant insulation. The construction is similar to the classic SIP-1 (3 insulated phases + a bare neutral messenger made of aluminium alloy), while the phase core insulation is made of flame-retardant UV-stabilised cross-linked polyethylene. It is used for 0.4 kV overhead lines where the wire is subject to increased fire safety requirements: service entrances, installation along facades and densely built-up areas. Designation breakdown: SIP – self-supporting insulated wire, n – flame-retardant, 1 – with a bare neutral.

Voltage 0.6/1 kV
Conductor Al alloy
Cores 3+1 (bare neutral)
Feature Flame-retardant

SIPn-1 wire description

SIPn-1 is a variant of SIP-1 with flame-retardant insulation. The index “n” in the designation per GOST 31946-2012 (Amendment No. 1) means that the UV-stabilised cross-linked polyethylene of the insulation is made of a flame-retardant compound. The conductors, cross-sections and mechanical characteristics are the same as for SIP-1: maximum conductor temperature +90°C in normal operation and +250°C under short circuit.

The main difference from SIP-1 is the behaviour in a fire: the insulation does not support flame propagation along the wire. This matters when installing along building facades, at service entrances and where wires are closely spaced.

The wire is intended for the same lines as SIP-1 – 0.4 kV overhead lines with a bare neutral messenger – but with increased fire safety requirements.

Applications

0.4 kV overhead lines with increased fire safety requirements
Service entrances to buildings and installation along facades
Densely built-up urban areas and places with concentrations of wires
Facilities with large numbers of people
Replacement of SIP-1 where flame retardancy is required

Construction

1

Phase conductors (3 pcs)

Stranded, made of aluminium alloy.

2

Bare neutral messenger

Made of aluminium alloy. Carries the mechanical load.

3

Phase core insulation

Flame-retardant UV-stabilised cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE).

4

Stranding

The phase cores are stranded around the bare neutral messenger.
