OKGT-S

Optical ground wire with the optical module in the stranded layer

OKGT-S is an optical ground wire with the optical module (or modules) stranded in the layer around a central steel element. Unlike OKGT-Ts, where the module sits in the centre, in OKGT-S the modules are arranged around the central steel wire, which makes it possible to accommodate a larger number of modules and fibres. It is used when a large number of fibres is needed in a single cable. Designation breakdown: S – optical module(s) in the stranded layer.

Application OHL ≥ 35 kV
Construction Modules in the stranded layer
Fibre count up to 96 (high fibre counts)
Purpose Backbone networks

OKGT-S description

OKGT-S is a variant of optical ground wire in which the optical modules are located not in the centre of the cable (as in OKGT-Ts) but in the stranded layer around the central steel wire. This makes it possible to fit more modules into a single cable – for example, 4 modules of 24 fibres each = 96 fibres.

The “S” design is particularly useful when many independent optical channels are required in a single cable – for example, for different telecom operators, the power grid's technical services and monitoring systems. Each module can be allocated to a separate service.

OKGT cables are supplied on the basis of individual calculations, separately for each project – TCG collects all the necessary requirements and selects a unique configuration according to the loads, climatic conditions and number of fibres.

Applications

Backbone optical networks of power systems
High-voltage lines of 220-1150 kV
Telecom operators' communication lines with several parallel fibres
Facilities with a distributed system of fibre channels (DTS, DAS, communications, protection)
Where a wide variety of fibres is required in a single cable
