APVV

6-35 kV power cable with aluminium conductors and XLPE insulation

APvV is a medium-voltage power cable with an aluminium conductor, cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) insulation, semi-conducting screens and a PVC compound sheath. The aluminium version of PvV is an economical choice for long 6-35 kV distribution lines. Designation breakdown: A – Al conductor, Pv – XLPE, V – PVC sheath.

APvV cable description

APvV is the aluminium version of PvV for medium-voltage trunk distribution networks. Aluminium instead of copper gives a ~3× saving in weight and a substantial saving in cost – critical for long routes with large conductor cross-sections.

It is used in 6-35 kV distribution networks for urban and industrial infrastructure: power supply to transformer substations, tie lines between networks, trunk lines to large consumers. It is used in groups of 3 single-core cables (one per phase). All other characteristics are identical to PvV – XLPE insulation (+90°C), semi-conducting screens, copper wire screen and PVC sheath.

Applications

6-35 kV trunk distribution networks
Installation in cable structures, indoor premises and on cable racks
10-20 kV urban and industrial cable lines
Power supply to transformer substations from distribution points over long routes
Used in groups of 3 single-core cables

Construction

Conductor

Stranded aluminium, round, compacted. Cross-section 16-800 mm².

2

Semi-conducting conductor screen

Made of conductive cross-linked polymer compound.

3

Insulation

Cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE). Thickness is 3.4 mm for 6/10 kV.

4

Semi-conducting insulation screen

Equalises the electric field at the interface with the copper wire screen.

5

Copper wire screen

16-35 mm² depending on conductor cross-section.

6

Sheath

PVC compound, black.
