Corrosion-resistant overhead ground wire made of aluminium-clad steel wires
GTK is a corrosion-resistant overhead ground wire made of aluminium-clad steel wires. It is used to protect overhead power lines from direct lightning strikes. Unlike conventional steel ground wires, the aluminium cladding provides high corrosion resistance and a service life of 50 years. Designation breakdown using the example GTK20-0/123-14.4mm-108kA²·s-155kN: 20 – type, 0 – Al alloy cross-section, 123 – Al-clad steel cross-section, 14.4 – diameter, 108 – thermal short-circuit withstand (kA²·s), 155 – breaking load (kN).

GTK is a modern overhead ground wire for overhead power lines. Its main difference from classic steel ground wires is that all the wires in the construction are clad (coated) with aluminium, which provides corrosion resistance in any atmospheric conditions, including industrial and coastal ones.
At the same time, the high mechanical strength of the steel core is retained – a breaking load of up to 250 kN in the larger sizes. Thermal withstand to short-circuit currents (especially under lightning strikes) is up to 200+ kA²·s for 1 second. The service life is at least 50 years, which is 2-3 times longer than that of conventional steel ground wires. GTK meets the requirements of ASTM B416 (USA) for conductors and ground wires made of aluminium-clad steel wires.

Layers
Several layers of aluminium-clad steel wires. The aluminium layer provides corrosion resistance for the entire service life of the ground wire.

Adjacent layers are stranded in opposite directions to resist unwinding.
